Texas epitomizes big. This fact preoccupied me driving the seemingly endless roads from Austin to El Paso. Somewhere just to the west of San Antonio on Interstate 10 — what seemed like only halfway across the map of Texas &mdash, I noticed that the green mile marker sign read 500. Meaning I still had 500 miles to go to El Paso and the border with New Mexico.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Tuesday updated emission standards for heavy-duty commercial vehicles for the 2027 model year, tightening tailpipe NOx limits to a level 80%-plus below the current standard and reducing the particulate matter limit by 50%. The agency also will require that OEMs extend warranties to 450,000 miles from 100,000 and useful life limits to 650,000 miles from 435,000 miles.

In something akin to a gesture of holiday good will, diesel prices at the pump have continued to drop and analysts expect 2023 to bring more of the same.
According to AAA, the average price per gallon for diesel on Friday in the U.S. was $4.80, down nearly 20 cents from a week prior and down 55 cents from last month’s average.
