Each week, we ask you to send us your questions for our monthly Q&A blog post through our Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you have a question about our services, regulations or the industry in general, let us know! Post a question on our discussion page on Facebook, or send us an @reply on Twitter to @TruckingLaw.
Here are a few of the questions that came our way this month:
Question:
Is it really legal to idle in non-idling areas if you have a pet aboard?
Answer:
It depends on the jurisdiction. Some places refuse to allow anyone to idle, esp. CA, while others allow it for pets but not humans. The only way to know for sure, since laws change so fast, is to call the local law enforcement, the people who would issue the ticket, and ask them. Cities, counties, and states change their rules, ordinances, and laws; it is impossible to know for sure day to day about idling.
Question:
I got a DUI in NC and didn’t have a CDL. When can I get a CDL?
Answer:
Anyone can get a CDL when and if they have a current state license in good standing. A CDL is only an endorsement on a state license.
However, getting a job is another question, and having a DUI on your record severely limits your job opportunities with reputable companies and the insurance companies that insure carriers.
Question:
How much do you usually charge on average to help clean up an MVR?
Answer:
We have an “MVR Review” available. That is a $100 charge to review your MVR and see if anything can be done. If something can be done, we will contact you with an estimated cost to clear it up, and the original $100 is credited toward that amount.
