It is hard to comprehend the scope of the death and destruction left in the wake of the tornadoes that earlier this week tore through sections of the southeastern United States. As of this writing, the death toll for the impacted states – including Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia – has exceeded 300.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who now face the struggle of recovery. In the trucking community, it’s worth noting that a twister hit a truck stop in Glade Springs, Va., sending nearly 40 tractor trailers through the air, while the storms caused significant damage for several carriers and truck dealers in Alabama.
Like many millions of Americans, truckers across the nation want to help those now coping with the devastation. A number of organizations are on the ground in the hardest-hit areas. Among those you might consider donating to are the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. You can call 1-800-RED-CROSS or text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation. For the Salvation Army, phone 1-800-SAL-ARMY or text “GIVE” to 80888 to make a $10 donation.
