The American Trucking Associations celebrated a victory last week as the Dodd-Frank bill was signed into law by President Obama. The major cause for celebration, an exemption from mandatory clearing requirements in the derivatives trade. This allows non-financial entities the ability to still conduct their business outside of the clearing houses.
For the trucking industry, it is hoped that this will serve as a hedge against rampant fuel costs, which has plagued the industry. It is believed that this new-found transparency will limit much of the oil speculation that is thought to have caused the recession.
