Congratulations to all the professional truckers across the nation! Your continued commitment to safety and heightened awareness on the road was recognized recently in an article released by the American Trucking Association (ATA).
According to the article, large truck-related fatalities dropped nearly 20 percent from 2008 to 2009, reaching an all-time record low. This data is based upon a recent study completed by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration for 2009. The overall number of traffic fatalities dropped from 4,245 to 3,380.
While there is no doubt you’re always ready to make it home or to your next stop, this drastic drop in large truck-related fatalities proves more truckers are paying attention and putting safety over convenience.
On another positive note, there also has been a 33-percent decline of large truck-related fatalities since the new and improved hours-of-service regulations were introduced. You may recall, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) introduced the hours-of-service regulations in 2004. A summary of the 2004 changes of hours-of-service and how they affect you can be found on this release by The Trucker‘s Report.
